With this exhibition, the city of Lucca wishes to pay homage to their distinguished fellow-citizen Pompeo Batoni on the three-hundredth anniversary of his birth. Batoni studied in this city of Tuscany, where he became internationally known, then in Rome and, afterwards, in England, where he would become one of the most famous painters of the British aristocracy. Accordingly, this year, the Anglo-Saxon world dedicated two exhibitions to this painter, first at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston and then at the National Gallery in London. Presently, Lucca completes this international itinerary by promoting the realization of the final and most comprehensive exhibition.
